Emily Roche: Photographic Response to Siúnta, 2024
Emily Roche was invited to creatively respond to the exhibition Siúnta at Pallas Projects/Studios. Emily worked with members of a local queer knit club to create these photos which drew inspiration from the exhibition itself and from the National Folklore Collection archives used in creating Síunta.
Emily Roche is a visual artist and primary teacher primarily making work through analogue photography and alternative photographic processes. Her work to date explores both real and imagined communities through a fictional, child like lens. By building highly constructed images, Emily explores the themes of isolation, facades, hiding, self- discovery and searching for community. Most of her work takes shape in the form of zines which have previously featured in Distro and Dublin Art Book Fair. Emily recently graduated from Photography and Digital Imaging in NCAD and is currently embarking on a Diploma in Art and Ecology.
